Game overview
The core setup, win conditions, and how the app presents your perspective.
🟫
Board
10×10 (dark squares only).
🎯
Win condition
Capture all opponent pieces or leave them with no legal moves.
🎨
Colors & handles
You’re assigned Red or Blue, but the UI shows players by handle.
🔄
Perspective
Your view may be flipped depending on color so you can play naturally from your side.
How to use
Using Draff Master (Quick Guide)
Basic app actions: match history, adding friends, requests, rematch, and settings.
👤
Profile & match history
Visit Profile to view your stats and recent games. This is also where you can reconnect with players you’ve faced.
🤝
Add a friend
Go to Profile → Recent Games (PvP) and tap Add Friend next to a player. You can also add a friend using their handle on your Profile.
📩
Friend requests
New requests appear on your Profile. You can Accept or Decline. Decline is silent (the request disappears).
🔄
Play again (Rematch)
If you enjoyed the matchup, use Rematch inside the game to play the same opponent again.
Settings: Your Settings page lets you update your bio, manage password/security, and update your country if it changes. (Your handle is your public game name; if handle changes are limited in your account, follow what the Settings page allows.)
📌
Note: Friends are used for sharing games to people you know. Direct challenges from the game screen are not required for this workflow.
Movement
Pieces and movement
How men move, how kings move, and when promotion happens.
👤
Men (regular pieces)
- Move one diagonal square forward to an empty dark square.
- Forward direction depends on your assigned color and board perspective (the app shows it correctly).
👑
Kings (flying kings)
- When a man reaches the far end, it is promoted to a king.
- Kings are flying: they move any number of empty diagonal squares.
Combat
Capturing and multi-capture
Capturing, flying captures for kings, and how multi-capture chains work.
⚠️
Important: The app may not physically block a non-capture move, but skipping a capture (or taking a shorter chain) can trigger Seizure.
🦶
Men capturing
- Jump diagonally over an adjacent enemy to an empty square beyond.
- Men can capture forward and backward.
🛰️
King capturing (flying capture)
- Capture along a diagonal by jumping over exactly one enemy piece.
- Land on any empty square beyond that enemy on the same diagonal.
- A capture leg cannot jump two enemies; your own pieces block the path.
🔗
Multi-capture
- Both men and kings can make multi-capture chains.
- If multiple sequences exist, choosing a shorter chain may trigger Seizure.
Key rule
Seizure (Huffing)
Seizure exists to enforce strong capture play. If you miss a capture or choose a shorter capture chain, your opponent earns a temporary right to remove (“seize”) an offending piece.
✅
When Seizure is earned
- You ignore an available capture, or
- You capture but do not take the maximum capture chain available for that piece.
🖱️
How Seizure works
- Your opponent gets a Seize Right for their next turn only.
- Seizure is a free action (does not consume the turn).
- Click an offending opponent piece. Wrong click fails silently.
- If a normal move is made without seizing, the Seize Right expires.
Tip: If you see a Seizure highlight on the board, it’s showing the evidence of a missed/short capture.
Pace
Time controls and inactivity
Clocks for PvP and anti-stall rules to keep games moving.
⏱️
Timed games (PvP)
- Choose: 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 20 minutes, or No clock.
- If your clock reaches 0, you lose the game.
🚨
Inactivity (anti-stall)
- If you don’t move for 90 seconds, you receive a warning.
- A 20-second countdown starts.
- If you still don’t move before it ends, you lose the game.
Competition
Ratings (Elo)
How ratings work on Draff Master.
🏆
Elo basics
- Draff Master uses an Elo rating system.
- All players start at 1200.
- Wins increase your rating; losses decrease your rating.
- Resigning counts as a loss (rating decreases).
Endgames
Draw rules
How the app detects common draw conditions.
🤝
Draw conditions
- Threefold repetition: same position occurs 3 times (same player to move).
- 50 quiet turns: 50 turns with no capture and no promotion.
- Only two kings remain: 1 king vs 1 king (and no men).
Note: The app will automatically detect draw conditions when applicable.
